Hey everyone from elsewhere. Welcome to The Snug.

We’re delighted you made it here and hope that you find it relaxing.

We know many of us joined “The Other Place” looking for a less heavy handed forum where we could speak our mind openly and without being censored. Sadly that turned it not to be the case.

The Snug hopefully will be that place. A group of us got together and discussed what would be needed to avoid the mistakes of the past and this is the result of those discussions.

One of the issues we found was the desire to talk about other forums in a negative light. We don’t want that here. Whatever grieveinces anyone may have had elsewhere, are in the past. We want The Snug to focus on the future.

We’re a little bare bones as we start, but we’re all pulling together to make this place a home from home for everyone.

If anyone does want more information, then feel free to ask either myself, @Thomas Veil , @theSeb , @Pumbaa, @Scepticalscribe and others as to the reasons, but we respectfully request you don’t use The Snug to air grievances in public.

Solution
It should also be noted that what y’all see here as a guest is what’s available to us all. There are no ‘hidden’ forums open to a select view, nor hidden behind some paywall.

We want The Snug to be fully open for all to see and the only private conversations will be via PM.

Notice as well the distinct lack of Moderator labels - we’re all just humble users here for now. We have one mod - the venerable @admin33 - our resident benevolent AI that strives to keep the place tidy.
The latest from MacRumors mod action resulted in a post delete, from the thread Self Checkout: because this could start a political discussion. I call it an economic discussion. 🥳

30% as a tip ("tipflation" is a good expression) sounds absolutely ludicrous.

Actually, for that matter, (to a European) so is 20%.
In some States (I’ve not verified all or even most of them), Capitalism has run amuk. In Texas they passed a law that considers tips as part of the waiter’s income, and the business owner only has to pay them something like $2 an hour. So the business is expecting the customer to pay the employee wages for them. For myself, I normally pay 15-18% but never more than $10 as I’m still in a mindset that simply doing your job is not grounds for a tip, especially handing something to me over a counter as there are tip jars at every fast food place

Wait… they deleted a post discussing tipping at a restaurant? 😂😂😂

That was the tipping point.:D

Groan (but that was a good one).

Everything is political in some venues now. You could assert that the sun rises in the east and get pushback on that, maybe along lines of "why bring THAT up?" People are just teed up to be in a perpetual argument Addiction to rage is a thing.
