The really covid-stupid lately is the spate of state-level (and at least one Congressional proposal) to not only end any current mask mandates but also to prohibit forever the issuance of any future masking mandates.

This is the right wing of the GOP, showboating in the extreme, besides being plain stupid. We're actually more likely to expire as a species from an unchecked virus than we are of nuclear annihilation. Maybe covid's on the wane. Says nothing about the next candidate from the world of tiny living things looking to gain traction. Writing laws that prohibit forever any health-related measure sounds bonkers to me.

Do these "legislators" imagine that governors or federal agencies are thrilled at the idea of mandating masks or vaccines?

The mandates are only issued in the current era when it becomes obvious that some variant of covid has got a temporary but fast-spiking grip on people. Masking happens to be an effective way of smacking covid down in a population that still has a fair number of unvaccinated people, combined with the widespread presence of several covid variants capable of breakthrough infections.

Honest to God I don't understand this virulent anti- this , anti- that attitude, especially aversion to the idea of anything that sounds like a rule. The reason we haven't already gone up in smoke as a species on this planet is because of people having learned to abide sensible rules... you know, like don't touch a hot woodstove, don't go outdoors naked when it's ten below zero...

Oh, wait. "sensible" rules... Yeah, the USA sometimes seems more than half-departed from sanity. I get it.
We do live under rules all our lives, and a lot of them are pretty basic, learned from the crib, and also tailored to the known frailties of the human body.

So maybe Ted Cruz and Kevin Cramer are just pitching this sort of legislation (also popular now among GOP state legislators) as just part of the GOP's 2022 campaign talking points. To me it smacks of pandering to a base that has been propagandized relentlessly now for seven years and counting, about "individual freedom" as the GOP defines it.

Of course the GOP also pitches its own restrictions on individual liberty, like their efforts to take away a woman's right to terminate a pregnancy or the right of a school district's children to find certain books on library shelves.

So the hypocrisy level is annoyingly high with people like Ted Cruz or Kevin Cramer. And I always think of that when I read the titles of official legislation these guys offer up in the Senate. The titles usually end with "... and for other purposes." Yes indeed. Other purposes. That's how the draft legislation Cruz and Cramer have just proposed does run:

To terminate any existing mask mandates imposed by the Federal Govern -
ment, to prevent the implementation of new mask mandates, to preserve
individual liberty, and for other purposes.

It was surprising to me that people resisted masks to begin with. Most sensible people were looking for any way to stave off infection by covid before the vaccines were available. Whatever did happen to our common sense?

They make up a lot of stories lol
My kids' preschool stopped masking for the kids (I was in favor of indoor masking, but if done inconsisntently is useless). In 4 weeks I got 5 upper respiratory and 2 GI illnesses. All from the kids.
At this point I'm not wearing a mask because of COVID. I'm doing it so others don't share my rebound misery.

In the meantime, my unvaccinated sister-in-law's family got COVID second time in 3 months... Thoughts and prayers.

Folks, this is about as Covid stupid as it gets.

A 60-year-old man allegedly had himself vaccinated against COVID-19 dozens of times in Germany in order to sell forged vaccination cards with real vaccine batch numbers to people not wanting to get vaccinated themselves.
He was caught at a vaccination center in Eilenburg in Saxony when he showed up for a COVID-19 shot for the second day in a row. Police confiscated several blank vaccination cards from him and initiated criminal proceedings.
It was not immediately clear what kind of impact the approximately 90 shots of COVID-19 vaccines, which were from different brands, had on the man’s personal health.

Yes, this guy is stupid.

But the previous situation with Kyrie was equally stupid. It made no sense that a visiting non-vaccinated player could play in The Barclay's Center or MSG, but Kyrie couldn't. But he could buy a ticket and sit in the stands. Would love someone to explain that one.

Welp, it looks like this guy missed his deadline.

Then again if Armageddon is arriving by mail too, it may take another 3-5 business days to get here.
