Restoration of Notre Dame cathedral after 2019 fire nears completion

The fire in the cathedral was catastrophic, even in a Paris memorious of wars, and the photos made prospects of restoration seem poor indeed. Yet Macron promised the impossible, a "five year" effort to raise the iconic edifice from near ruin. Not sure how many people bought into that idea back then, but it has proved feasible thanks to the dedication, money and elbow grease of more than 2000 inspired people. The formal reopening will occur on December 8th this year.

 
Oh, when I saw the damage I thought, This is going to be an expensive, Herculean job to restore this thing. But they’re doing it.

It’s a shame that those magnificent 13th century oak beams that held up the ceiling are no more. But they are being replaced by new ones, and those new beams will become part of the cathedral’s rich tapestry of history.

It’s nice to see something positive happening in the world. Thank you for posting.
