The 2024 NFL thread

At the risk of sounding anti-Christian, I’d like to see more athletes respond to a question from a sideline reporter with a relevant sports related answer, not something about how God makes all things possible.

Reporter: asks question about the game.
Player: responds with a commercial for Jesus.
Probably it will go on until some reporter says "Good luck in the playoffs" and the player says "Inshallah" and then and only then will the honchos step in and say the sports field is not about how God sees the future yada yada.

Browns had a 2-TD lead, but took multiple penalties on the last drive. Feels like they could find a way to blow it…

For once they didn’t! In fact, for Browns fans that was a very entertaining game. At least three lead changes, several turnovers, challenging weather…

The only bad part was when the Steelers’ Damontae Kazee pushed one of the Browns players out of bounds and then kept shoving him long after the play was over. That precipitated a minor fight on the sidelines that the refs had to break up. Looked pretty egregious to me and I was actually hoping Kazee would try something like that again so he would get ejected from the game.

What the heck was that at the end of the Bears-Lions game on Thanksgiving??

After a sack pushed the Bears to the edge of field goal range with about 30 seconds remaining in the game, the Bears shockingly didn't use their timeout, and the game ended on a long incompletion.

The Bears needed only a field goal to tie the game and send it into overtime. They had ~30 seconds left and one timeout.

Neither Caleb Williams nor Matt Eberflus called the timeout. Nor did Williams spike the ball to stop the clock. They just assembled for the next play and watched the clock tick down to :00 as Williams heaved one last incomplete pass into the end zone.

Football malpractice at its very best. 😣

Caleb Williams showed a severe lack of football IQ in the game. However, in today’s NFL, the coaches don’t want the players to call the timeouts, the coaches are supposed to handle that. So…

I cannot believe Eberflus will have a job after that fiasco. But I looked at his record for the past 3 years. He has been terrible. Maybe winning games isn’t important to his employer? A 3rd-year head coach should not make that kind of mistake… even a rookie would do better.

BONUS: Eberflus says he made the right call! Yeah, sure if the goal was to avoid overtime and get home for Turkey dinner faster…

“I like what we did there…” LOL

And… speaking of low football IQ, I just watched Tua Tagovailoa take a sack on 4th and goal. Uh, just toss the ball into the end zone to at least give somebody a chance at catching it!

I'm afraid RAIDERS coach Antonio Pierce will get the ax this season.

The team is just awful and I don't think it is fair to hang that on him in his first full year as HC.

I agree; you can’t give a race-car driver a broken-down jalopy and blame them for not winning the race.

I’m watching Sunday Night Football—KC vs the Chargers—and every time they show Andy Reid I have this desire to hear him say “Bundle-a-rooskie”.

LOL yeah to the victors go the spoils…in this case, lucrative advertising deals for Super Bowl winners.

Just watched Bills/Rams. It was a great game, where both offenses were on fire and neither defense had a chance. In the end, the difference was a blocked punt for the Rams. I wish that one lucky play had gone Buffalo’s direction, but at least they proved they never give up and always have a chance in any game.

I wondered what had happened. Dang.

If that happens to the Chiefs there is going to be a penalty that gives them a first down. lol

They have been the recipient of good luck and extremely friendly officiating all year. The Bills knew how to beat them: stay up by 2 scores so they can’t use shenanigans from the refs at the end of the game to sneak away with a win.

The Bills.... smh. This is my issue with them: Inconsistency

I want them to win it all. I don't think they want to. lol

Unsurprisingly, it's expected he will get cut. That kind of attitude makes you worthless on the field and poison in the locker room.

LOL.

Long story short: this is an NFL referee who, after a flag, makes a personal comment before announcing the penalty. Which, of course, he’s not supposed to do.

The follow-up comments on Bluesky range from funny to brilliant. 😂

Where was the unnecessary roughness?

I’ve been meaning to say…I get a kick out of those Progressive commercials where people call in a backup—Josh Dobbs, Colt McCoy, Jacoby Brissette or Case Keenum—to do jobs that their spouses can’t handle.

I especially love them because all four of those guys have played for the Browns. 😄

Speaking of things I’ve never seen before.

My wife was talking to me so I missed what happened; I saw only that they were still running a play with 0:00 on the clock.

I know you can’t end the half in a defensive penalty; it’s what came next that had me confused. I didn’t really understand what’d happened until I read about it after the game.

I’ve never seen a fair catch kick in an actual game. Actually, thanks to my wife, I still haven’t seen it. 😆
