The ever increasing rise of @$$ holery

Maybe McHenry didn't have a clue that McCarthy had put his name atop the secret list of people to become speaker pro tem in case of vacancy? The suit does look sort of off the rack and untailored... maybe he sh*t himself when he was informed that he had just become the person supposed to preside over the wackos in his party's conference while they try to pick a speaker next week.

Let's recall they took 15 votes just getting Kevin in there,,,, and now everyone not among the barn burners is hot under the collar having to go through this yet again, knowing that the hard right will be just as adamant about wanting to be able to toss out the next Speaker too. The Gaetz-led group doesn't have the votes to pick the speaker they'd like (one of their own, no doubt) but they can get enough votes to prevent choice of anyone they figure might make a deal across the aisle to keep the government from shutting down.

Hey, if they're really into shutting down the government, they could just keep taking votes on Gaetz for speaker... He'll never get enough, and the government will shut down before turkey day, mission accomplished.

A candidate for Speaker would undoubtedly have to give up less to win over a handful of Democrats than whatever the toddler caucus is demanding. McCarthy foolishly refused any kind of deal with Democrats,, and we saw how that went.

Many “rank and file” Republicans have been doing interviews about this turn of events. Amusingly, they insist McCarthy got a lot done for conservatives. When they provided details, it was mostly a bunch of bills that died in the Senate. Uh, sorry, those are not accomplishments.

So, per the Congressman Mike Kelly (R-PA):

"No student loan is forgiven. The debt is just transferred onto the backs of the American taxpayers."

Yeah, kinda like the unfunded tax cuts ladled out to offshoring corporations and highest income earners by the Trump administration.

If the Rs can call their tax cuts a trickle-down benefit to the nation --and so, "an investment in America"-- then I don't see why it's not an investment in America to help ensure that the USA ends up with an educated populace.

Oh, I forgot. The Rs still think the most dangerous person in America is a literate kid with a library card. Right, right.

As for Kelly's PPP loans,,,, let's see, uh.... Well sure, that money was an investment in America too, right? Kinda like lending your campaign money, only it's not really yours. Kelly was allowing all American taxpayers to invest in the happiness of employees of Mike Kelly's Pennsylvania car dealerships, with the spinoff that it was free advertising for re-electing the guy.

Trump kept talking about draining the swamp and there are still fans of his talking up that idea. More lke mining the swamp, I'd say.

Remember, these guys

After all, corporations are people too. According to some really rich guy that got brave on his way out of congress.

Which means, corporations like people can be lying assholes.

In other words, people struggling to pay rent and utilities and buy groceries have "decided" not to buy plastic crap at every single Target store. No different to any other quarter when the CEO looks at year over year sales and axes a few underperforming stores. What's different is deciding to blame a specific class of criminals for stuff like CEOs making 40 or 200 times what the help at the store makes. Seems like "criminal" might be in the eye of the beholder here.

So glad Judd reported on this. I knew it was BS as soon as I saw Target pitch their story. But he went the extra mile and proved that it was nonsense. Next time, maybe investors on the earnings phone calls will challenge this kind of statement. After all, don’t they want to know the truth about a company they’re investing in?

Heh, maybe not all that often any more. They don't believe what they're told on the earnings calls, but they don't want to ask too many questions in that venue either. If they are analysts, they'd rather let their bond department go over the financials and provide a private take later on. It's how the general public keeps on getting taken for the full ride...

Less than $7/hour for someone with a Master's Degree. GTFOH!!! She probably is an employer from hell just reading this ad.
Whole thing reads to me much more like a total spoof meant to gain or retain views and followers.

I mean it's absurd, a parody of ads from decades ago when women in upscale households had begun to take jobs of their own and so engaged an au pair to mind their kids and keep a bit of a lid on household chores. But those women had the sense (and dough) to also hire separately a cook, a cleaner, a chauffeur and a couple of gardeners...

Somebody convince me that student debt hasn't just become another grift, like I'm not the only one can see the obvious...

There was an easier solution. It was right there. It can still be done.

Sadly, the current version of The Supremes has created a “major questions” doctrine, in which they can overrule any action taken by any government agency if they disagree with it. It has zero to do with the constitution; Congress has clearly given Dept of Education the authority to forgive loans if it wants. The EPA can regulate waterways - it’s in the text of the bill creating the agency! But a majority of justices, bought and paid for by billionaires, overrule those laws in favor of profits over people. Forget right-wing vs left-wing, these justices are, before all, tools of the wealthy, to protect that wealth.

Is there a doctor on the plane?

A black Harvard-educated doctor says she was racially profiled by employees on a Delta connection flight who questioned her medical credentials as she tried to help a fellow passenger in distress.

Dr. Fatima Cody Stanford, who serves as an obesity medicine physician-scientist, educator and policymaker at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, told Boston 25 News that she was flying from Indianapolis to Boston on Oct. 23 when a woman began to convulse and hyperventilate.
The person in medical distress surely didn’t have any problem with a black female doctor helping her. But flight attendants were certain that a black woman couldn’t possibly be a medical doctor.

Amid this, Stanford said the first flight attendant returned and questioned her ability to help. “You’re not really a doctor,” the attendant allegedly said. “You’re just a head doctor.”

“I said, ‘Excuse me, what do you mean by that?’ [She replied,] ‘Oh, so you’re not really an MD, are you?’” Stanford told Boston 25 News.
Speaking to The Boston Globe, Stanford said she believes the attendants’ suspicions of her credentials were “100 percent” racially biased.
Delta Airlines refused to take responsibility for the incident, saying they contracted that flight out to another airline. Awfully convenient…

A spokesman for Delta Air Lines, reached by HuffPost on Thursday, apologized and said Delta does not require a passenger to produce medical credentials to help another passenger in a time of need. However, spokesman Anthony Black pointed out that the plane in question was being operated by another carrier, Republic Airline. It works in partnership with Delta, he said, but it has its own operating and training procedures.
