The ever increasing rise of @$$ holery

On a smaller scale…this is the second time this week I’ve had my Harris for President sign attacked. The first time the wire stand was mangled and the sign left for dead on my lawn, but I had another stand and I put the sign back. The second time the sign was outright stolen.

The Trump dummies don’t realize that every time I buy a replacement I’m contributing to her campaign and/or Democrats in general.

Meanwhile these useful idjits go over the top and festoon their houses with Trump yard signs, flags and banners.

I really don't get that. A sign is a sign. I see all over the place that here if someone puts a sign up for one party, within a day there are two signs for the opposing side around it. To the point that street corners with grass look like colorful cartoon grave yards.

What I really don't get, is a place of business putting out signs for either party. One company put a 45 sign. I had to wonder if all the employees are on board. I also wonder what happens if the company finds out some people avoided their business now. I know if they got business from the politically like minded it's all good. If they don't get some business... they will cry discrimination?

I always have to wonder how far people get up their own ass & feelings to just confront people they absolutely don't know?

Especially over crap that doesn't even involve them. People are just too comfortable being assholes, that I don't think they can recognize they are being assholes. At least not until their feelings or anything else, are hurt in return.

Empathy is truly being one of our most dwindling resources.

would put a smile, you're on camera sign next to it. boom, internetfame

Not apropos of anything in particular…I just saw this and couldn’t help agreeing.

Then again, sometimes a-holes get an appropriate rebuke.

I hope the above post is real—and if it is, that MAGA doesn’t do to Campbell’s what they did to Bud Light.

response is fake. the last thing companies will do right now is getting into internet cat fights like this. that said the users say Campbell did not pull the ad which predates the Trumpster fires.

Didn't believe it was real, but it’s funny. ☺️

No state has a longer, more profit-driven history of contracting prisoners out to private companies than Alabama. With a sprawling labor system that dates back more than 150 years — including the brutal convict leasing era that replaced slavery — it has constructed a template for the commercialization of mass incarceration.

Best Western, Bama Budweiser and Burger King are among the more than 500 businesses to lease incarcerated workers from one of the most violent, overcrowded and unruly prison systems in the U.S. in the past five years alone, The Associated Press found as part of a two-year investigation into prison labor. The cheap, reliable labor force has generated more than $250 million for the state since 2000 through money garnished from prisoners’ paychecks.

Most jobs are inside facilities, where the state’s inmates — who are disproportionately Black — can be sentenced to hard labor and forced to work for free doing everything from mopping floors to laundry. But more than 10,000 inmates have logged a combined 17 million work hours outside Alabama’s prison walls since 2018, for entities like city and county governments and businesses that range from major car-part manufacturers and meat-processing plants to distribution centers for major retailers like Walmart, the AP determined.

While those working at private companies can at least earn a little money, they face possible punishment if they refuse, from being denied family visits to being sent to higher-security prisons, which are so dangerous that the federal government filed a lawsuit four years ago that remains pending, calling the treatment of prisoners unconstitutional.

Though they make at least $7.25 an hour, the state siphons 40% off the top of all wages and also levies fees, including $5 a day for rides to their jobs and $15 a month for laundry.

Turning down work can jeopardize chances of early release in a state that last year granted parole to only 8% of eligible prisoners — an all-time low, and among the worst rates nationwide — though that number more than doubled this year after public outcry.

“It is a symptom of a completely, utterly broken system,” said Chris England, an Alabama lawmaker pushing for criminal justice reform.

Many prisoners work 40 hours a week outside their facilities and then get weekend passes, allowing them to go home without any supervision or electronic monitoring. So when prisoners are then told they’re too dangerous to be permanently released, England said, it looks like “another way to create a cheap labor force that is easily exploited and abused.”

This attitude is not unique to Alabama. I may have mentioned around Election Day that a majority of people in California voted to make slavery legal for felons, on the exact same ballot as they voted to make shoplifting a felony.

Lots of Americans are a-ok with slavery as long as it’s only for the “bad” people… which can now legally be defined as anybody stealing bread to feed their kids… even in “liberal” California.

After so much about asshole companies, here's a pleasant surprise

The Costco board has rejected a request from shareholders to drop its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies. The shareholders urged the board to get rid of its “illegal discrimination” program.

The Costco board replied to a number of shareholders, recommending a vote against a proposal to “report on the risks of maintaining DEI efforts,” Newsweek reported.

The shareholders had put forward a suggestion that employees of the company could be victims of "illegal discrimination because they are white, Asian, male or straight.” They argued that it could lead to tens of billions of dollars in legal expenses defending against lawsuits.

“Our Board has considered this proposal and believes that our commitment to an enterprise rooted in respect and inclusion is appropriate and necessary,” said a statement issued by the board.. “Our success at Costco Wholesale has been built on service to our critical stakeholders: employees, members and suppliers. Our efforts around diversity, equity and inclusion follow our code of ethics.

The board added that it wants to make sure all of its more than 300,000 employees "feel valued and respected,” and that by having a diverse workforce, Costco can have more insight and creativity when it comes to what the company offers at stores.

The board went on to note that customers will be able to “see themselves reflected in the people in our warehouses with whom they interact.”

Welp, turns out if you're not an asshole to others, than the assholes will be mad. Not worry, it's the people who hate cancel culture so...

Costco is facing a possible boycott from MAGA supporters after rejecting a proposal to eliminate Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Polices (DEI) in the company.

The National Center for Public Policy Research proposed that Costco drop it's DEI policies after other companies in the industry like Harley Davidson and Walmart were doing so, as there have been a number of DEI-related lawsuits in the industry.

Costco - which announced it would close for 24 hours - rejected the proposal by the "conservative think tank", saying that respect and inclusion are "appropriate and necessary" to its success as a company. By doing so, Costco is choosing to take as stand against anti-diversity activists, which has enraged MAGA supporters who have discussed boycotting the company online as Project 2025, a proposal of polices created and supported by members of the Trump administration suggests that DEI practices should be abolished in both private and public sectors.
"Costco board of directors recommended that its shareholders not vote for the end of its large DEI program. Hell no! Absolutely not! Boycott Costco! Cancel your membership! Nothing can stop We The People to Make America Great Again!" wrote AJ huber on X, whose bio reads "Christian Conservative MAGA God Gun Constitution".

Well, he seems like a pleasant enough of a fellow, who has great respect for his fellow man not like himself. 😏

"For now I suggest conservative consumers find other places to spend their money if Costco is so dedicated to doubling down on DEI. If they're smart, Costco will do right by their shareholders and change before we turn our attention to them," wrote Robby Starbuck, a conservative activist and filmmaker on X.

"It's clear that DEI holds litigation, reputational and financial risks to the Company, and therefore financial risks to shareholders," the proposal read.

Costco rejected the proposal, saying that respect and inclusion are two values important to Costco.

"Our Board has considered this proposal and believes that our commitment to an enterprise rooted in respect and inclusion is appropriate and necessary," the board wrote.

"The report requested by this proposal would not provide meaningful additional information to our shareholders, and the Board thus unanimously recommends a vote AGAINST this proposal," the board added.

The board continued on, talking about how respect and inclusion help their 300,000 employees feel safe and valued, which is important to Costco.

"For our employees, these efforts are built around inclusion – having all of our employees feel valued and respected. Our efforts at diversity, equity and inclusion remind and reinforce with everyone at our Company the importance of creating opportunities for all," the board wrote.

I did want to clarify something that caught my eye, about Costco closing for 24 hours.

Costco has announced that on Wednesday, New Year's Day, they will close all stores nationwide for 24 hours. Shoppers will have to stock up on Costco supplies and buy in bulk before the new year.

Following a massive egg recall, the membership-only warehouse club will give its 500+ locations a day off on January 1, 2025. This comes after their closure on Christmas Day last week and the decision to scrap a holiday section. Shoppers can still hit the aisles on New Year's Eve during normal hours, with business as usual resuming on January 2.

Costco isn't alone; Aldi and Sam's Club are also taking a break on New Year's Day. "We want our employees to enjoy the holiday with their loved ones," a Sam's Club spokesperson shared. They'll be wrapping up early on New Year's Eve, at 6 p.m. instead of 8 p.m. Meanwhile, Walmart, Target, and Kroger are sticking to their regular schedule. "All Kroger locations will operate under regular business hours both New Year's Eve and New Year's Day," the company's site confirms. Normal service for all these retailers kicks back in on January 2, 2025, along with online options.

The article does provide a link, but with no context it made the closing to seem related to the possible boycotts. It isn't.

I keep thinking about how much this wanton distortion of reality is on brand with late stage capitalism. Even if I assume a sincere belief in markets being the best determiners of "truth" (I think many just want to fleece as many people as they can), the systematic devaluation of information for markets will hasten the collapse on a system if it truly functions independently of reality. And if correlation with reality isn't an expectation, then it would support the idea, that maybe other systems/ideologies would be similarly viable. Either extremes is true, collapse appears imminent from my viewpoint.

Debunking of Trump’s lies regarding the fires and Native Americans fishing for salmon…

But number one, there is no shortage of water in the Los Angeles area. The reservoirs are at or above historical levels. The water is there. Now, we have seen high-profile issues in one part of the city, Pacific Palisades, where some hydrants were dry or did not have a lot of water. But that was not because there was not enough water in the region. That was because of technical, logistical infrastructure issues related to the hilly mountainous terrain and the location where water tanks have been situated.

So, the idea that not enough water has been sent down from the north and instead has been, you know, protecting a little fish there and that’s why we’re seeing these fires be hard to contain, simply does not bear out at all.

Of course he includes racism against native Americans in his lies. But hey, he’s not the only a-hole in this.

Not long ago, Californians passed dual referenda establishing legal slavery for imprisoned felons, and making shoplifting a felony! Why do I bring that up?

PS - After getting all this training and experience, most fire departments won’t hire ex-cons. So this isn’t about training for a future job. It’s for risking their lives as slave labor, putting out fires at the homes of multi-millionaires. Sorry, California is majority a-hole, not majority liberal.
