The Oh So Competent (evil) Trump Administration

The confusion continues for customers ordering under-$800 foreign goods. Trump’s lack of instructions and process for collecting this de minimis tax is throwing a huge monkey wrench into the system, with customers not getting their orders and UPS in more than a few cases actually destroying the items.

In case you’re unfamiliar…

Packages with values of $800 or less, which were previously allowed to enter the United States duty-free, are now subject to a range of tariffs and fees.
They include hundreds of country-specific rates, or President Donald Trump’s so-called reciprocal tariffs, as well as new levies on certain products and materials.

To be sure, the elimination of the de minimis exemption was put in motion in the Biden administration—except we can be sure Biden would not have handled this as if it were a large homework assignment put off until the morning it was due, or totally ignored.

And the part about additional tariffs is Trump’s problem completely.

One person quoted is so upset that she’s planning on taking her business to FedEx…except I’m not sure how that would help. They and DHL are probably in the same fix—all caused by that brilliant business mastermind Donald Trump.

I’m not looking forward to the holidays this year. I’m not confident retailers will have smaller (under $800) foreign-made items in stock or be able to ship them. For some of us, Trump will be the Grinch who stole Christmas.

The courts have already ruled that the pres doesn’t have the power to assess these tariffs. But of course it got appealed to SCOTUS, which will decide to wipe their asses with yet another law.

Our microwave broke so we went to cosco. We wanted a tabletop one so the kids can reach it without a ladder. The selection was 1 type in the store and 2 more types online. It impressed me that the selection of products got narrower.

I could get hit on that issue too. My microwave oven is way overdue for sudden failure. I expect sticker shock and fewer choices thanks to Trump's tariffs.

Yeah, Costco tends to not be the kind of store with tons of selection. With the exception of the big-draw items like HDTVs, they tend to have a few of each kind of item––although they seem to choose wisely. Very few things I've bought at Costco weren't high quality/value items.

For microwaves your best bet is always something like Best Buy or maybe Lowe's.

Stephen Miller’s wife…

Absolute geniuses in this administration.

The government is shut down, Mile Johnson says he’s going to keep it that way, ICE is terrorizing neighborhoods, but thank God somebody’s got their priorities straight!

And when he doesn’t win this next one, they’ll be appealing to extraterrestrial life for help.

I have serious doubts that the peace they fabricated in the mid-east will last until the next nobel cycle. It's actually a huuuuuge opportunity to manipulate trump through his nobel fixation, which will be totally exploited from Oslo to Vladivostok. so incredibly stupid.

What would happen if Trump actually got the Peace Price? I’d assume an invasion of Greenland would be back on the table for starters…

I saw a comment online today that said MAGA = Nazis, and it made me remember that not that long ago I used to see strident arguments that MAGA ≠ Nazis because they are not doing the cruelest Nazi things—sending people to gas chambers and performing horrible experiments on them.

I didn’t acknowledge that differentiation then, and I don’t acknowledge it now. Do we really have to wait for it to get that bad to call a Nazi a Nazi?

IMO when they held up “Mass Deportation” signs at campaign rallies they gave up any right to the benefit of the doubt.

Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines is at The Hague for his extrajudicial killings of supposed drug dealers.

Our President is on TV right now saying the exact same thing. That he will “kill” the drug dealers.

Why is there ANYTHING ELSE other than these crimes against humanity on the news? Should be the ONLY story.

Trump's administration has got "flood the zone" down to a science. Fake or real, all the news is exhausting. And that's what Trump wants.

Blondie Leavitt at the WH podium executes perfectly on Trump's intent to make us all numb to his commission of any of the seven deadly sins, never mind violations of theUS Criminal Code or any international body's rules of the road. If it's wrong, she'll say it's fine (or Biden's fault) and move on.

Trump could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and Leavitt would present it as justice well served because Trump said so and is right; next question.

Lies, threats, slurs, deprivation of due process, steamrolling civil service protections, thumbing nose at Congressional prerogatives, illegal detentions and deportations,, extrajudicial killings in the name of undeclared war, misappropriation of Congressional allocated funds, attempted normalization of extreme cronyism and self-dealing on a global scale...

It's impossible to stay outraged 24/7, impossible to decide what to weep for. Disappeared or dead human beings? History twisted or demolished? Hungry kids caught between Republican lies about healthcare "negotiations" and impending SNAP benefit cuts during the government shutdown? The impact of tariffs on foodstuffs about to emerge in the Northeast from the camouflage of cheap summer local produce? The impending crash of markets finally giving it up over deregulation of financial institutions, proliferation of crooked receivables factoring, studied carelessness of audits, leveraged buyout detritus finding no takers even after repackaging, big banks hauling it in from hapless maxed-out credit consumers by leaving card rates high even as their central bank borrowing costs fall?

But hey the markets were up today. The US government may be shut down but it's also (and "essentially"??) quite busy taking equity stakes in tech companies, to make sure Trump's biggest AI and crypto donors stay afloat. No no, not a bailout like in 2008. It's like.. well, it's like a pre-bailout, see. It's rock solid equity in perfectly nice US stocks... until all the cronies have run up their holdings and then sold them off before the crash, and then it's mostly a hole in the Treasury after yet another gigantic hike in the wealth of billionaires. Those guys better start culling their household belongings down to what can fit on a private jet for when push comes to shove down the road.

yup. and they can make every outcome work for them. if the AI balloon pops, they can push the recovery back on dems and then blame them for doing the recovery slowly just to take over again.

Can’t pay federal workers, including FBI agents. But somehow, the FBI can pay for this:

These grifters are laughing their asses off at the MAGA voters (and non-voters) who elected them.

JV is still spouting lies about Haitian people eating cats and dogs.

They are getting more and more blatant with the racism.
