Seems like Sweden is one step closer to NATO despite Erdogan’s last minute bazaar haggling attempt to link accession to a Turkish EU application (while saying that F16:s should not be linked to letting Sweden join NATO 😝).

On this basis, and given the imperatives of the deterrence and defence of the Euro- Atlantic area, Türkiye will transmit the Accession Protocol for Sweden to the Grand National Assembly, and work closely with the Assembly to ensure ratification.

Done deal. Bye-bye centuries of non-alignment. I can only imagine what was said in that one pivotal meeting that made the Swedish Social Democratic Party suddenly support a Swedish NATO membership…

Sweden became NATO’s newest member on Thursday (7 March 2024), upon depositing its instrument of accession to the North Atlantic Treaty with the Government of the United States in Washington DC

Okay, stupid of me…I was looking at a NATO map that did not include Sweden. I really really should’ve known better.
