United States of Mass Deportation

I'm just confused I guess, it was discussed in some detail here on our early evening radio current affairs programme to much similar confusion by the radio host and an interview he then conducted with a White House aide (sorry, can't remember who she was, but she did seem strident and impatient) which reinforced the confusion rather than explained it. The point he kept making and I think it's a key one is that with so much video of the incident how can people who have all come to such radically and diametrically opposed views on what happened? From our limited perspective over here just about everyone I know is thinking manslaughter after seeing that video.

I get that politicians will often (always?) shoot their mouths off - but surely in cases like this there's an established apolitical protocol that has to be followed (immediate officer suspension but officer not named, evidence gathering, investigation by an independent body etc etc) - surely politics / hidden corruption can't stop that?
Please don’t hate me for quoting George Orwell.

The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

To back up Heather's view there was the interview with the white man on the scene who says he generally leans right but this isn't right or how things should work here. He was noticeably shaken.
Yeah, the type of person who needs color coding to tell whether the answer is "this isn't right" vs. "he should have complied".
Also, the same kind of people forgot about Jan 6 as eagerly as chump strolls trough teenagers' dressing rooms.

The gofundme campaign for Renee's family raised $1.5 million and it has been closed to further donations. I think they should reopen it.

I don't know how you would explain this to her kids and just as upsetting is what has been said about their mother by the Trump administration.

Here's the ICEtapo agent's camera view. Again these fucking fascists are so deep in their own assholes they don't realize that the video makes them look worse. Renee was very visibly cranking the steering wheel towards the right even before that asshole dropped his phone to shoot her. I didn't listen much of the anchors blabbering. This is 2025, I don't need anybody's narration to understand what I'm seeing, yet they seem to be entertaining Kristi Gnome's viewpoints way too much.

If you want to understand what the right-wing social media addicts are seeing, try watching the video thusly:

1. Close your eyes
2. Listen to a right-wing podcaster describing what the offical party line is.

This killing has struck a nerve all throughout society. I saw normally apolitical spaces start to discuss this. The FB page of a local pie shop, a radio discussion of Maryland local governance issues, and even a classical radio station in Minnesota as recounted here:

You should see r/conservatives on Reddit. Looking at the exact same video, they are not only absolutely, positively sure that the footage "proves" that the ICE goon fired in self defense, but are convinced that the left wing media are in a conspiracy to brainwash us to think Renee Good was murdered. It's amazing.

they want a civil war.

...and they're gonna keep pushing until they get it.

Please don’t hate me for quoting George Orwell.

Not at all. I've seen that line quoted a lot since Good was killed.

Brainwashing does work. Once you get them watching only Fox and only right-wing twitter and podcasts, nothing true gets through.

I abandoned reddit twice. Once after the API/IPO turning it into absolute shite and then the second time after the election.
I don't think any you're seeing comments from humans on r/conservatives. I think it's a combo of 25% human state actors, 50% LLMs, and 25% people you'd not ever expect to have an coherent discussion about absolutely anything if you met them IRL. It's a serious timesuck.

I thought about this a bit more. “Who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes?” - This accelerated greatly after Jan 6. We all saw the hate and violence on TV. But the right-wing media machine insisted it was “sightseeing.”

"in the people's house".

verbatim quote...

He's been an ICE agent since 2015. Much like Tom Homan I think we have a situation that is like having a correctional officer at a maximum security prison who has no life and at some point they break, lose all humanity, and start projecting their work environment onto all of society.

I'm not usually a fan of protest chants, but I feel "You can't kill us all!" that is happening now is appropriate for the moment and gives notice that we will stop taking it by force.

When little blue-dot villages in red districts start holding daily protests against the cruelties of the Trump 2.0 regime, notice should be taken by the spineless shreds of Republican Party officialdom. I saw a post on Bluesky the other day noting that people in some semi-rural village have had a running protest now for 339 days. And then there was the turnout yesterday in not just big cities (massive protest in NYC) but all across the country in hundreds of towns, county seats and state capitol districts.

Photographic evidence of these protests is landing on front pages of both print and online newspapers, regardless of those papers' editorial slant and the reach of their publications. The Albany (NY) Times Union ran photos of the protest in Colonie, a suburb of the capitol district. These people vote, a lot of them are white and some may well have voted Republican in the past, but they are all livid over the thuggish excesses of ICE and in particular now the senseless murder of Renee Nicole Good.

The truth of "First they came for... but I was not an immigrant..." has finally started to register with white citizens who may or may not have understood all along that no one in the USA who is of any color or ancestry is safe when the guy at the top has nothing but contempt for the rule of law and the US Constitution.

the "issues don't exist" until it happens to my demographic attitude bothers me deeply.

Actually, I would say that his experiences are surprisingly relevant to all this. I suspect you already know this so I'll apologise in advance if this is all a bit self-evident but here goes...

Orwell's (well very much Eric Blair at the time) views and his later books were pretty much formed by his time in the British Imperial (Indian?) police in Burma in the 20's. He disliked the Imperial system he worked for and he quite quickly became something outsider in it. It didn't turn out to be some romantic Lawrence of Arabia going native story as he found that wherever he went he was hated by the Burmese to the point he became quite contemptuous of them in his writings. (Some of it makes for uncomfortable reading now.) Despite all this he stayed in the system and took the pay and fulfilled family expectations until he eventually changed direction while ill back in England.

I have absolutely no doubt he would have been involved even if just tangentially in unpleasant 'asymmetric' Imperial violence against a cowed local population at times and I have a sneaking suspicion he would have recognised the situation in Minneapolis. But should we ever find his mobile phone videos from those Imperial days we might find he wasn't filming from the side we would now automatically assume he would have been on (the ones holding the placards), he would have had the gun and the whip.). He went on to write Burmese Days and also an essay entitled the Hanging which I think gives the game away.

It did though make him a master at recognising that what you can do with just a conscience is limited and all these things are system issues and that it requires reform at a systemic level – all of his books to my mind show how a system corrupts otherwise decent individuals. After all if someone like Orwell could have been part of the oppressive force then I guess it's within us all.

I'm convinced the vast majority of MAGA is bots and foreign actors with fake data and elevated exposure manipulated by asshats like Musk. I offer this as evidence. Renee Good, known to mostly only friends and family, gets killed by ICE and massive protests breakout all over the US and some outside the US. Charlie Kirk, a top famous far right organizer and influencer gets assassinated and.....nothing. Just some sad pockets of gathering and the bizarre WWE inspired memorial forced onto us by the same data and influence manipulators.

Let me offer alternative explanations:
1) it's less motivating to lynch people for kirk's death when the government is already siding with you.
2) people cared a lot less about kirk in actuality than what they virtue-signalled.

But yeah, I think the actual MAGA hardcore's 99% is just fake accounts.

Notice how we don't hear about white supremacist or militia rallies anymore? It's because they are all working for ICE living their best life in both job and pay and the rally talking points are being made by the federal government nationally on the daily.

And honestly that's all these assholes care about, hurting people. They don't care about general freedoms or the economy, and on that one, given their pay their personal economy is doing great. The economy does in fact collapse they'll still be doing great because that's even more people they are authorized to hurt and repress and that's pay enough.

Yeah, but that's one of the left-wing/normal-person fallacies based on the notion that "we all want the best for people, just have different ideas how to achieve those". In reality people who explicitly hold antisocial views don't do it to better society, they do it to better themselves, and thus their benchmark of prosperity will be their own wellbeing.

Also, look at that 10K donation there below. Best way to add the billionaire-funded flavor into political homicide:

As I heard somebody recently say - Fuck the enlightened centrist. I have absolutely nothing in common with Nazis.
