Television What Are You Watching?

I can't seem to get into any new series. I tried watching The Expanse and more recently The Wheel of Time and could not finish either of the first episodes. I read the books, well, that's a bit of a lie. I read up to book 6 in The Wheel of Time and got fed up with Jordan's yammering. So, I keep rewatching old series that I used to enjoy, such as The Sopranos. I really need to rewatch Oz in the near future. Highly recommended, if you haven't seen it, but I would not recommend it for everyone.

Severance on AppleTV+, I love it. I just love it. Smart, dark, original. A true surprise by director Ben Stiller.

Servant S3 I enjoyed the first season, second one was ok but not great, I am enjoying S3.

Yellowjackets. I just finished it. I found it very entertaining, although some sub-plots were tedious or cliche’d.

Evil S2. Just finished it. It’s pretty wild if you ask me, but it’s a very entertaining series. It’s a mix of the Exorcist, XFiles, Millennium, and your average horror movie.

Friends reccomended to me the French TV series un village français (A French Village) which is streaming on Prime Video but as one of those annoying hybrid platform offerings, partly included in Prime membership benefits but partly available only as a non-Prime premium channel offering (on the MHz Choice channel, 7.99/mo after trial) or to purchase. It's sometimes available via certain PBS stations and has also aired on Hulu. In French w/ subtitles. Only seasons 1, 3 and 4 are included in Prime membership. Sigh...

The series aired beginning in 2009 and is set in a fictional small village during WWII in German-occupied France. The show has seven seasons, each covering a year of the occupation except for 1941, which is addressed in seasons 2 and 3. Plots involve dangers of life near the border of the occupied zone, the resistance, collaboration, treatment of French Jews, war profiteering, etc. Not the lightest of subjects but certainly timely in terms of world events lately.

Lately I've been rewatching Chernobyl (HBO Max). Hardly an advertisement for the old USSR style of managing anything. Had to intersperse episodes of that for sake of my mental health, with some excursions to rom-coms that popped up on other platforms. None of those are really worth the mention but they served the purpose.

[EDIT: oops... a movie, not a TV series] Words and Pictures (Netflix) was okay, but the characters weren't written with much depth.

According to my app, here are most of the shows on my list:

Currently airing:
American Auto – I'm not sure this is great TV, but I'm enjoying this first season so far.
Bel-Air – Not as dark as the fan-made trailer, but still entertaining to me thus far.
The Truth About Pam – A Hulu production based on a local, fantastical murder story, it is interesting just how it is being written/produced.

Waiting for a new season:
Taskmaster – the best "game show" on television. If all of my shows had new episodes, this would be either the first or second watched.
Ted Lasso – And this would be the other one. Rewatching through for at least the 7th time while waiting for S3.
The Morning Show – I enjoyed S1 way more than S2, and hoping for a return to form in S3. Not confident.
The Flight Attendant – Coming back next month, I think? We will resubscribe to HBO Max to catch this and a couple of movies.
Ozark – The second half of this last season (don't you hate it when the split it?) is shaping up to be great. Looking forward to it.
Impractical Jokers – I'm wondering how well it will work without Joe, who was willing to do just about anything.
Lego Masters – No surprise there, right?
Murderville – Did anyone catch this one on Netflix? Up and down show, but when it is good, I'm laughing out loud.

I'd better jump on this quick or all the good repeat thread titles will be taken. 😛
And to make this a legit post, we finished episode 8, the Season 1 final of Gilded Age (HBO 2022-), it was relatively tame, no cliff hangers, mostly subtle a little drama with a good ending, someone gets their way burrowing into high New York society , someone dodges a bullet, someone who likes to cook, excellent at what he does, pretending to be what he is not, is professionally restored, and someone seeks a lost loved one. That's all I'll say. 🙂

Close to finishing up Season 5 of The Last Kingdom (2017-2022 Netflix)- This has easily kept our interest over 5 seasons. I believe a movie is in the works.

OooOOoo......many thanks for the reminder! I've seen every season of The Last Kingdom but have yet to start season 5.

To follow up on Raised by Wolves Season #2. It ended up resorting to opening 10 questions and answering zero. LOST style, which I stopped after 2 seasons too, because the BS was obvious. No TV show I'm aware of could ever come back from this. GoT came the closest but it also fell flat. So I'm done with it. Will read the summary after season 3 and decide it its worth it.

I really wanted to like RBW.

Just completed this series, The Last Kingdom, thumbs up! This story is to be followed/completed with a Netflix 2hr movie 7 Kings Must Die on Netflix to be released in 2023.

Spoilers if you have not completed Season 5.

I started watching Succession after all I've heard about it. I knew I would like it when I was only half-way through the first episode and already completely into it. I'm almost finished with the first season and can't wait to see the rest.

I liked some of it... even appalling as the characters tend to be. Haven't watched Season 3 but want to see it, so thanks for the reminder.

I do tend to think of you as the King of Forum Media.

I watched three episodes of Pennyworth, the story of Alfred before he was a butler, on HBO Max. It's from the same producers as Gotham, which I'm sure I've never told you I worship 😏 , and so far so good.

There's a lot of intrigue and spy stuff, all veddy British, and it reminds me a little bit of the "Kingsman" movies...just without the lavish HQ and such, since Alfred is just starting out.

I will say it is not the kind of thing I will be sharing with my fellow Gotham-loving grandson anytime soon. Pennyworth is full of language, some nudity, adult themes, etc.

Just finished Reacher over three nights. I wasn't sure what to think at first, but in the end, it kept me engrossed and entertained. Season 2 is already a go but may not be avail until April 2023.

A bit ago, Mrs. Veil and I had started watching Only Murders in the Building (Hulu). But she kind of lost interest in it, so for a while I stopped too.

Over the weekend and today I caught up with it and finished it. Amusing show. It does start out slow and only moderately funny, but it picks up speed and kind of goes full bonkers towards the end. I'm glad I followed through on it.

And now I've got that damn theme song stuck in my head.

I'm like your wife. Started it, then lost interest, and I haven't made it back. Probably won't. It was sort of cute in a way, but, like you said, was moving too slowly wherever I left off.
